Environmental Policy
The New Brunswick Laboratory policy is that the safety and health of its workers, visitors, the environment, and the public are paramount in all of its activities.
The New Brunswick Laboratory maintains an Environmental Management System and ensures operations are conducted in an environmentally sound and responsible manner. The New Brunswick Laboratory is committed to:
- Continual improvement in environmental performance;
- Pollution prevention and waste minimization;
- Compliance with all applicable requirements; and
- Implementation of the environmental objectives and targets process.
Focus
Developing and improving methods and procedures with regard to certifying and globally distributing
nuclear reference materials of plutonium and uranium. NBL also focuses in highly enriched
uranium transparency monitoring, conducting surveys
and inventories at laboratories nationwide,
maintaining a cadre of scientists capable of responding
to nuclear emergencies, and collaborating with
local, national, and international laboratories.

- Staff consists of approximately 40 technical
(mostly chemists) and support/administrative
personnel
